Politics in Haiti is Keeping Relief Aid Out

I received an urgent prayer request about Haiti today.

Bright Hope’s most recent shipment of relief aid to Haiti is being held up by customs because of the uncertainty regarding the prime minister.  Apparently, customs officials fear losing their job by approving containers not supported by the PM office.  Unfortunately, it is backward thinking and part of the corruption culture mentality.  I had hoped the new PM, Rouzier, who led a Christian charity was going to be appointed but the parliament rejected President Martelly’s appointment back in June.  There is a political battle between the old political regime and the newly elected President who was elected by the popular masses.   Another candidate named Bernard Gousse has been nominated but some news outlets report he will also be rejected as well.  It may take a few more weeks for a new PM to be appointed pushing out our original approval date at the end of this month.   Please pray for this to be resolved.

The shipping container has tens of thousands of dollars in relief aid; including medicines, clothing, and food.

Please pray for Haiti and the release of this vital aid.
